ENDOWMENT BUILDER PROGRAM

Phase 1 - Discovery and Exploration [site visit]

Clarify scope of project, goals of school, and anticipated needs for endowment. Discussion of school's beliefs, values, and mission as seen in deployment of current revenue sources. Analysis of current endowment structure, strategy, and impact on school operations, juxtaposed with anticipated endowment impact on future operations (needs, wants, and goals).

Phase 2 - Refinement

Multiple strategies identified and developed. Structure (unrestricted, restricted) and flow (investments and expenditures) examined and submitted to software simulation. One multi-layered prototype selected for presentation to school.

Phase 3 - Report to School [site visit]

Comprehensive prototype delivered, embodying school's beliefs, values, and mission. Deliverable contains details regarding structure and liquidity of endowment, including forecasts of endowment growth over time, showing a range of growth rates based on market variables.

Phase 4 - Implementation

In collaboration with school leaders, create or revise stream of policies, programs, and procedures to foster endowment growth, adhering to prototype presented in phase three. To assure consistency, relationships maintained with head of school, business office, development office, and trustees for up to one year from date of contract. Review of policies and forecasts with school's endowment manager, if requested. Provide guidance (if desired) on: endowment spending policy, gift acceptance policy, planned giving, unitization schedules. For US clients, additional guidance (if desired) on: UPMIFA, FASB 117, IRS Form 990 (Schedule D, parts V and XIV).


ENDOWMENT FORECASTING PROGRAM

Endowment Forecasting Program

We forecast endowment levels into the future and measure how your current endowment model performs against objectives. Included in this program:

  • Monte Carlo simulations provide range of performance data
  • alternative spending policies compared against your current policy
  • up to four forecast updates per contract year
  • presentation of forecast data to school-designated team
